Hope Is Still Alive

Ominous climate change trends
Hope Is Still Alive“2019 Doomsday Clock Statement – It is still 2 minutes to midnight.” from The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists 2019 Doomsday Clock Statement concerning the issue of global warming. It is from the Science and Security Board – Editor, John Mecklin.
Before we get carried away with the doomsday word, I see HOPE. I know the threat is here and it is time to wake up. The answer to picking up the pace of decarbonization is through grassroots organizations.
“The existential threat from human-caused global warming is ominous and getting worse. Every year that human activities continue to add carbon dioxide to the atmosphere irreversibly ratchets up the future level of human suffering and ecosystem destruction that will be wrought by global climate disruption. The key measure of improvement on the climate front is the extent of progress toward bringing global net carbon dioxide emissions to zero. On this measure, the countries of the world have failed dismally.
Global carbon dioxide emissions rates had been rising exponentially until 2012 but ceased growing from 2013 to 2016. Even if this emissions plateau had continued, it would not have halted the growth of warming. Net emissions need to ultimately be brought to zero to do so, given the persistence of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere for up to thousands of years. The ominous news from 2017 and 2018 is that world emissions appear to have resumed their upward climb.”
There is still time to rescue the world from truly catastrophic effects of climate change. For such a rescue to become reality, however, progress toward decarbonization must pick up pace dramatically, and very soon.
Grassroots groups to the rescue = Hope
In my opinion, the way we are going to make the changes we need to lower our carbon emissions is going to come from the people, not the governments.  As Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
I want to introduce you to one such group. Unify Toronto. Out of a group of people meeting through the Pachamama Alliance, this group was formed. They have organized many outreach efforts and are working with Paul Hawken’s Drawdown. Project Drawdown is the most comprehensive plan ever proposed to reverse global warming by 2050. Drawdown is that point in time when the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere begins to decline on a year-to-year basis. Drawdown Toronto is a group that has been formed this year to bring awareness and action into this part of the globe.
One current challenge coming up is called the Drawdown Eco Challenge. You get to choose your challenge.  You can choose from Women and Girls, Materials, Transport, Food, Buildings and Cities, Electricity Generation or Land Use. In each sector there are different options to choose from. They can be a one-time action or something you are going to do daily or as often as you can. Feel free to join our Drawdown Toronto team and play along to make a difference. This is a way to generate more hope.
Another way to get involved is to attend a symposium called Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream. These happen monthly and can be life changing. To register for the next one click here.
Hope to see you either online or in person as we make the changes that mother earth is waiting for.
Hope is still alive,
Charlene

Team Approach to Miracles

After an hour and a bit of sleep, I am woken up to hear my granddaughter is on her way to my place for her home birth. My body goes into overdrive as the birthing pool is not yet assembled. She is a few weeks earlier than expected. I throw clothes on and get to work preparing the birthing room and the pool. Thankfully I had help.
The pool had to be inflated and then filled with warm water. It was inflated when she arrived but not filled yet. Now my attention goes to her needs as her doula. Thankfully her partner could join the team to monitor the water situation. Half way through filling, we ran out of hot water. Now the pots and kettles must be employed. Lots of action now. The midwife arrives and very quickly assesses that the baby is due to arrive very soon. She calls for back up.
Now the team consists of two guys working on filling the tub with pots of hot water, two midwives and one doula. Some people ask what the difference between a doula and a midwife is. The fast answer is the doula concentrates on the mother’s needs and the midwives concentrate on the baby’s needs. If there is no doula present the midwives take care of mother and baby.
The other “member” of the team was a voice coming through the computer my granddaughter brought with her. That voice was Shawn Gallagher who has recorded hypnobirthing audios to help mothers go through the whole birthing process. My granddaughter was listening to her during her labour. So now we add one more to our little team.
Once the birth pool was filled enough my granddaughter got into the pool which eased the intensity of the contractions a little. Water births promote more efficient uterine contractions and improved blood circulation resulting in better oxygenation of the uterine muscles, less pain for the mother, and more oxygen for the baby. So, within the hour of getting into the tub little baby Shawn was born, coming out into the world through some warm water before being placed on my granddaughter. 5:25 a.m.
The bonding began, and my granddaughter was overflowing with love for this new little human coming into this world. My granddaughter is a natural and the midwives suggested that she become an advocate for birthing moms. She has experienced a hospital birth, a midwife clinic birth and now a water birth. They also thought I should rent out my room for other birthing moms as it had everything they all needed.
One of the things I provided was an electrolyte balancing drink throughout to all the members of the team including my granddaughter. The electrolyte balancing powder prevents dehydration. It bypasses the stomach and contains three types of carbohydrates for energy and stamina. This was added to water. It was especially important for my granddaughter as she needed that extra energy between contractions.
The other perk I provided was energy chews for all the team members. They were very appreciative as everyone was missing their sleep. Each chew contains a scientific blend of caffeine from natural green tea extract associated with energy and performance, plus key amino acids L-tyrosine, L-theanine associated with mental alertness and focus, energy-releasing B vitamins and vitamins D and C. So, each chew boosts energy naturally.
So, the result was one very happy mother, a very healthy new baby boy (featured in the pictures a few hours after being born) and a team of support people who witnessed one of life’s true miracles – a birth.

From a numerology perspective, 2019 adds up to be a “three” year. A “three” year’ means good things are on the horizon. It promises points of reflection and thrilling challenges. 2019 will help us improve our communication skills and challenge us when it comes to expressing our ideas. The Chinese New Year in 2019 starts on Tuesday, February 5th. Now it is time for you to create the kind of year you desire with fresh goals. Every year I use the template below to create the year I desire. I write down which goals I desire under each of these categories. Then I pin it up where I can see the goals daily. Feel free to customize it to fit into your life. Winter Solstice and Holiday Season

During the holiday season we look around and from the outside it is all about shopping, presents, overeating and day to day routines. Busy, busy, busy.
What about the inside? What is happening on the inside? When we look past the physical body and look at the invisible part of ourselves. The spirit part of ourselves. Or the spiritual part. The essence of who we really are.
What is happening there? My guess is, not too much. Why?
Because that part of us needs some solitude, some quiet time, some reflection time.  What are you doing to feed that part of yourself?
Are you meditating, reflecting, listening to the silence? Doing something that feeds your soul?
Our present society is divorced from nature. We are so out of touch with Mother Earth and so out of touch with ourselves as a result.
December 21 is the Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. It marks the beginning of winter, the shortest amount of daylight, the lowest arc of the sun, and the return of longer daylight hours in the days, weeks and months to come. It is the time of hope for it promises the renewal and rebirth of all things.
The Winter Solstice supports us to go inside and listen to ourselves and to nature. Think of ways you and your family can acknowledge the power and beauty of Mother Earth, and how you can help to keep it as clean and healthy as possible for our future generations.
Cold winter is the time of inwardness and self-reflection when all of nature seems dead. Yet, the Winter Solstice carries hope for new birth and a fresh beginning. Winter is one of the seasons of the rhythms of Mother Earth. The rhythms that we have stopped listening to or relating to.
As Mother Earth nurtures us, so the Sun nurtures Mother Earth. Many people forget that life on Earth is totally dependent upon the energy of the Sun. Without the Sun’s warmth and light, there would be no life as we know it. Everything is so connected.
As we acknowledge the rhythms of Mother Earth and the Sun and the Moon, we will be more connected to ourselves. I encourage you to acknowledge the Winter Solstice and listen to what your body wants to do.
Do you need to sleep, slow down, take a break, meditate, reflect or just be still for a while? I highly encourage you to breathe and take time to listen both to yourself and to Mother Earth. There is such tranquility there. Serenity, peace, harmony, flow, wisdom, love and joy are all waiting for you. Take some time out to experience it.
Happy Holidays and Winter Solstice,
Charlene

What is Ontological Coaching?

Self awareness and self-understanding lie at the heart of living a more fulfilled life. Ontological coaching is the fastest path to growth in these areas.
Ontological coaching is aimed at helping people live authentic and fulfilling lives. It is a type of coaching based on the philosophical study of the nature of being, ontology.  Ontology looks at what exists, what is true, and what is real. Ontology is also the study of how we determine if things exist or not, as well as the classification of existence. It explores the human condition and can train us to choose the best way of being at any given moment.  Ontological coaching can support us in achieving our goals and creating a new way of being.
Ontological coaching addresses the multi-dimensional nature of humans as biological, linguistic, emotional, somatic, along with our unique culture and history. It is very holistic in its approach with a biology, ecology, and mindfulness approach. Language, emotions and body are encompassed and there must be shifts in all three areas to integrate the change.
Our perception of the “truth” influences what we think and what we can know. Therefore, it is important to develop options and choices, that we may not have thought of without some guidance. Ontological coaching helps us to notice our existing patterns, practices, distinctions, assumptions, worldviews and concerns by creating a space for that awareness.
“This is so important because our subconscious mind is full of paradigms—those complex and habitual memorized behavioral patterns, emotional reactions, assumptions, values, perceptions, attitudes, beliefs or scripts that can act as filters to our experiences. Paradigms are deeply entrenched habits in our subconscious and guide our behavior and how we make choices. Our paradigms or beliefs control our perception, effectiveness, productivity, our ability to earn money, and much more. What we don’t realize is that our subconscious mind operates this programming for us approximately 96% of the time. It is running the show, so our lives are created mostly from our subconscious programming on autopilot. It is like an internal map or blueprint that must match the outside world. If we are not cultivating new habits, the old ones run automatically (even without our knowing it).” 30 Laws of Flow
Ontological coaching seeks to challenge our presuppositions and helps us to recognise that what we think of as ‘truth’ is usually nothing more than learned narratives. Our narratives and stories are usually expressed in the things we say as well as our beliefs and values; but they are often silent, invisible and in the background of everyday conversations. They also have an emotional and somatic dimension and can be major barriers to the change we desire.
Ontological coaching expands our capacity to choose. It is a means of producing major shifts in perception and behavior through all aspects of communication. No longer are we driven by our paradigms, beliefs, perceptions, attitudes assumptions, our views of the world, our “default” behaviors; instead we have the freedom to choose who we wish to be. This capacity enables us to accomplish our goals, to deepen our relationships, and to live a life that is full and rewarding in a more connected world.
Ontological coaching observes how we use language, what emotions are shaping our interpretation of the world, how we move through space, all the time facilitating our awareness of what we were previously blind to. It’s so obvious that we don’t see our presuppositions. In other words, we are blind to our blindness. We need someone “outside ourselves” to help us see what we cannot see – to reveal our cognitive blindness.
Ontological coaching will help expand your possibilities, increase your capacity to learn, act more effectively and better design your future.
For more information on Ontological coaching, please contact me.
To your success,
Charlene Day

Gratitude and Happiness Revealed – How to be Grateful

We just celebrated Thanksgiving Day in Canada, and it always the perfect time to be reminded about gratitude. It is wonderful when we become aware of something, then we notice it everywhere. Being reminded of the vibration of gratitude is always wonderful. A reminder to be mindful and in the present moment, to reconnect with our inner being or soul, to be connected with a universe that celebrates life and that we are all connected, all one. In this, happiness is revealed.
I discovered the TEDxSF video by Louie Schwartzberg on Gratitude. Please take a few minutes to watch this amazing video on gratitude.
By happy coincidence, I was reading the chapter on gratitude from The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles. So, gratitude is in the air around Thanksgiving.

As this video suggests, we have so much to be grateful for; each day we are here, our precious life, so much.
It is easy to notice that people who live from a place of gratitude, experience more of life’s goodness. With the natural principle that action, and reaction are always equal, what we put out, comes back to us. When we feel gratitude, the universe sends it back.
As Wallace Wattles says, “It is necessary, then, to cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you; and to give thanks continuously. This will bring you into harmonious relations with the good in everything, and the good in everything will move toward you.”
As we all are working for a better life, this video is a great reminder to cultivate the attitude of gratitude daily.
I wish for you a day filled with gratitude and continues daily! Feel free to check out the meditation on The Law of Gratitude if you want a daily reminder.
To your success!

10 Ways to Get Attitude Shifts

Most people let outside circumstances, other people, conditions, and environment control their attitude. We don’t want the outside world to control us. We want the control. When we choose to control our attitude, we can respond to life rather than react to it. When our attitude shifts everything shifts. In this post, I’ll cover 10 ways to shift your attitude and discuss what attitude is.
William James said, “Human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind.” The only thing we have total control over is our attitude shifts.
Ask any successful person what tops the list of priorities for a successful life and they will tell you having the proper attitude.
Zig Ziglar said, “It is your attitude, not your aptitude, that determines your altitude.”

So, what is attitude?

Attitude is the composite of your thoughts (the activity of your conscious mind), your feelings (the activity of your sub-conscious mind), and your body, the material medium where your actions produce results. This is where behaviors show up.
  1. Clement Stone said, “There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative.
All thoughts, feelings and actions are a form of energy that we express. Our thoughts charged with emotion set up a vibration in the body that will cause us to act. The universe will respond with a vibration in harmony with the one put out by us. So, if our attitude is positive we will attract a similar positive vibration and we will obtain a positive result. The same is true with the negative attitude.

So, what are these 10 ways to get attitude shifts?

  1. Believe you can change your attitude, break old habits, make the choice to change your vibration.
  2. Respond rather than react, change the way you look at a situation.
  3. Become aware of what enters your consciousness and choose the positive.
  4. Be aware of all the attitude components, the thoughts or beliefs, the feelings or the behavioral aspects and watch for any cognitive dissonance (holding two conflicting ideas) especially in the subconscious and the conscious minds.
  5. Monitor your internal dialogue and change the words or phrases to positive ones.
  6. Work with your strengths and delegate responsibilities that frustrate your attitude.
  7. Ask yourself penetrating questions to break the negative state and get you to think differently.
  8. Hang out with positive and inspiring people and model them.
  9. Live in alignment with your values.
  10. Count your blessings – have an attitude of gratitude.
Keeping your attitude positive is the fastest way to live the life of your dreams.
To your success!

Healthy Habits: Wellness Strategies for Everyday Life

The “daily grind” is so named because it tends to wear a person down when all they do is work and focus on the needs of others. That’s why it’s so important to take time out now and then to make sure your mind and body are both healthy and well taken care of. It can be difficult, however, to pull your attention away from the things that matter most to you and slow things down, even if it’s because you so badly need it.

Fortunately, there are simple things you can do to incorporate healthy habits into your lifestyle that won’t break the bank or leave you feeling stressed. Whether you want to find a better diet, create an exercise routine, or get adequate rest, there are many ways you can start feeling better quickly that won’t necessitate you taking time away from your other responsibilities.
Keep reading for some wonderful healthy habits tips.

Take a Time-Out

Life can become hectic at times. For some, there are daily chores and jobs that must be taken care of, while others are dealing with medical or mobility issues that prevent them from being able to get as much done as they’d like. This can bring on stress and anxiety, which can contribute to a negative mental health state, so it’s important to find ways to relax. You might brew a cup of tea and sit down with a good book, or have a spa day where you make soothing, homemade skincare treatments or masks or give yourself a hot rock massage. Taking time out for yourself isn’t being selfish; it’s simply making sure that your body and mind can get a reprieve from everything that’s going on. For more on how to get started, read on here.

Relieve Stress

Relieving stress can be easier said than done for many people, but there are some simple things you can do to beat it. From creating a new exercise routine that will give you a mental health boost to picking up a hobby that helps you feel confident and happy, there are all kinds of things you can do to reduce negative feelings for a more joyful life.

Sleep to Dream

Many seniors have sleep issues; some have trouble getting to sleep and lay awake for a long time, while others have chronic pain that keeps them from falling into a restful sleep. Deep, dreaming sleep is necessary for everyone, and if you just aren’t getting there at night, it’s time to take another look at your sleep routine. Cut out caffeine for several hours before bed, put away computers and smartphones at least an hour beforehand, and check your mattress to make sure it’s still in good shape. If you have chronic pain or can’t get comfortable at night, you might consider investing in a new mattress.

Change Up Your Diet

The way we eat, and drink has a profound effect on the way we feel. You don’t have to make huge changes to your diet all at once, but there are some small things you can do to bring a healthier feel to the table. From adding dark leafy greens, berries, and lean meats and fish — which are anti-inflammatory foods — to leaning more toward whole grains, there are many ways you can make sure your diet works for you.

Incorporating healthy habits into your lifestyle is a great way to boost your energy and your mood, and it doesn’t have to be stressful or difficult. Find small ways to change your habits so they’ll be more manageable and remember to stay safe.

Weird but Effective Mindset Hacks – Working Your Inner Game – Part 2

Mindset is a way of thinking and a set of beliefs, and beliefs determine our actions. This is the inner game. It is your inner game that dictates your outer results and what you do. Any struggle inside is what is creating the struggle on the outside. You change your beliefs and your self image, when you play a bigger game with your thoughts and take a different kind of action utilizing mindset hacks.
What result are you looking for? It could be on a personal level or a business level. What you may not be taking into consideration is your mindset. Mindset or your inner game is 90% involved with your results.
Upgrading your self image requires that you reprogram how you see yourself. Upgrading your beliefs (your inner game) requires a conscious effort to get through to your subconscious mind. A thought repeated many so times that it creates a belief – creates a neural pathway. So, to change a belief requires a new neural pathway.
There are many ways to improve your inner game but here are three more mindset hacks I have experienced over the years that work. These hacks may require you to see a practitioner fluent in these practices to get you on track, unless you are already experienced with the techniques that follow.

Mindset Hack – Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

EFT or tapping draws on various forms of alternative medicine including acupuncture meridians, Applied Kinesiology, Behavioral Kinesiology, Neuro Linguistic Programming, Energy Psychology, and Thought Field Therapy.  EFT works by tapping with your fingertips on various meridians/acupuncture points around the body. It releases the emotional charge around disturbing memories, and discharges stress, anxiety and negative beliefs. EFT allows you to work on your beliefs and cut through the conscious mind and go straight through to the subconscious mind.

Mindset Hack – NLP Neuro Linguistic Programming

Neuro Linguistic Programming  (NLP) is an approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy created by Richard Bandler and John Grinder.. Neuro refers to your neurological processes; linguistic refers to language; programming refers to behavioral patterns learned through experience. NLP can be used to control your emotional and mental state and has techniques to change your state. With NLP both your conscious mind and subconscious mind are involved. Your conscious mind is the goal setter, and the subconscious mind is the goal getter.

Mindset Hack – Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a specific set of tools and techniques to help you enter a trance-like state with concentrated, focused attention and reduced peripheral awareness (no distractions) and an enhanced capacity to respond to suggestion. Like EFT, you lose your conscious mind awareness and go straight through to the subconscious mind. With the right practitioner, this can be a fast track way to change beliefs, work on your inner game, allowing you to play bigger.

Weird but Effective Mindset Hacks

Mindset is a way of thinking and a set of beliefs, and beliefs determine our actions. This is the inner game. It is your inner game that dictates your outer results and what you do. Any struggle inside is what is creating the struggle on the outside. You change your beliefs and your self image, when you play a bigger game with your thoughts and take a different kind of action utilizing mindset hacks.
What result are you looking for? It could be on a personal level or a business level. What you may not be taking into consideration is your mindset. Mindset is 90% involved with your results.
Upgrading your self image requires that you reprogram how you see yourself. Upgrading your beliefs requires a conscious effort to get through to your subconscious mind. A thought repeated so many times it creates a belief – a neural pathway. So, to change a belief requires a new neural pathway.
There are many ways to accomplish this but here are three mindset hacks I have used over the years that work. (More to come in the next blog)

Mindset Hack – Affirmations or Mantras

Affirmations are positive phrases you repeat to yourself that describe what you desire. A mantra is a statement or slogan, or positive phrase or affirmative statement repeated frequently. The idea is to reprogram your subconscious mind and overwrite any limiting or negative beliefs you may have about yourself or about not being able to do something. With repetition you can start a new neural pathway. This pathway can be made stronger with the use of alpha brain wave frequency.  Alpha waves are neural oscillations in the frequency range of 7.5–12.5 Hz. It puts you in a relaxed but alert state.

Mindset Hack – Goal Cards

Goal cards are cards you carry with you and you read aloud at least twice a day. Typically, first thing in the morning and last thing at night. What you have written on the card is a very detailed, clear, concise description of the goal you are working on. As you read it, you see and feel (get emotionally involved with it) and believe yourself already in possession of the goal. I have found this mindset hack to be very powerful.

Mindset Hack – Vision Boards

A vision board is a tool used to help clarify, concentrate and maintain focus on a specific life goal. Literally, a vision board is any sort of board on which you display images that represent whatever you want to be, do or have in your life. It’s a way to manifest your dream life. When you make a vision board, you get clear on what you want to create in your life. Once you get clarity, you select images and words from magazines and paste them on a big poster board. Seeing this board each day aligns your brain with the outcomes you most want to attract. These are ways to link your thoughts with positive emotions.  (Oprah, Ellen DeGeneres and Katy Perry all swear by vision boards).
Another way to do this is create a mind movie. There are computer programs that provide you with images and music or you can create them yourself. Once again it is the daily repetition that makes this work in terms of reprograming your subconscious.
Stay tuned for part 2 where I will reveal more mindset hacks that work.
